David Kohn creates Designs of the Year show

David Kohn Architects has designed the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year exhibition at the Design Museum in London.

The exhibition features the best designs from the last year in architecture, fashion, transport, product, graphic, furniture and interactive design.

The consultancy was appointed in September and briefed to create an exhibition that would allow visitors to view the designs in the round.

The concept behind the exhibition design is to display the exhibits in constellations that accentuate the cultural and physical relationships between the designs. Exhibits are arranged in the themes of home, city, play, share and learn.

David Kohn Architects created a structure of modular frames and plinths made from carbon fibre rods, brass connectors and fabric-wrapped aluminium tops.

London-based design consultancy Multistorey has created canvas banners and bunting to give the space the look and feel of a street festival fitting of the celebratory nature of the exhibition, says a David Kohn Architects spokeswoman.

The overall winner of the Brit Insurance Design Awards will be announced on 15 March. The exhibition is open until 7 August.
