Over the pond
If you’re looking for a Trans-Atlantic perspective on branding and design, you could do worse than tune in to the new season of Design Matters podcasts from New York’s School of Visual Arts.
Hosted by Debbie Millman, chairwoman of the SVA’s Master of Professional Studies Branding Department, the broadcasts – which are filmed in front of a live student audience – will feature chats with a range of designers, artists, journalists and academics.
The British element will be represented by New York-based Eddie Opara – Pentagram’s second-newest partner – and Pearlfisher creative partner Jonathan Ford.
Other contributors will include Kalle Lasn, founder of Adbusters, and Kate Betts, contributing editor at Time magazine and columnist for the Daily Beast.
Previous seasons have featured such highlights as Steven Heller talking about blogging from the bathroom and Stefan Sagmeister discussing ‘his personal time in Bali’.
The new series kicks off today at 2pm New York time (7pm GMT) when Rob Walker, who writes the Consumed column for the New York Times, will be in the chair.
Design Matters is aired on www.designobserver.com
