Sorrell nets knighthood in honours list

John Sorrell, chairman of the Sorrell Foundation, Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment and the London Design Festival, has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List.

Sorrell chaired design consultancy Newell and Sorrell between 1976 to 2000 and was appointed CBE in 1996.

He is a member of the Culture and Creativity Advisory Group, and a regular speaker and broadcaster on design, identity and creativity.

Also recognised in this year’s honours list are: Professor Margaret Ann Buck, previously head of Central St Martins College of Art and Design, for services to arts and design education; designer Jasper Conran, for services to the retail industry; and Tricia Guild, chairwoman of Designers Guild, for services to interior design. All three receive OBEs.
