B&B Italia founder Piero Ambrogio Busnelli dies aged 87
Piero Ambrogio Busnelli, founder of furniture brand B&B Italia, has died at the age of 87.
A statement from B&B Italia says, ‘The furniture industry has lost a great pioneer in Italian design’.
B&B Italia – which was founded in 1973 – has released designs from the likes of Naoto Fukusawa, James Irvine, Patricia Urquiola and Zaha Hadid.
The company has won 4 Compasso d’oro awards – the most prestigious Italian design award.
A statement from B&B Italia describes Busnelli’s ‘innate dynamism and great intuition’, with which he drove the company to new areas such as office, commercial fit-outs and even cruise ships.
The statement says, ‘[Busnelli was] a visionary entrepreneur in the field of design and an extraordinary ambassador for “made in Italy”’.’
B&B Italia remains in Busnelli family ownership.
