The D&AD Student Awards took place yesterday evening, hot on the heels of its New Blood student awards, with 22 winners scooping the first prize across 31 categories.

The purpose of the awards is to highlight the best emerging talent within design, advertising and communications courses around the world.

All winners and those who receive second place mentions or commendations are placed in the D&AD Student Annual, alongside students who are awarded a mention in the book.

Students who come first are given a D&AD Student Yellow Pencil.

Winners this year included Phil Brewer and Wayne Blenkin from the University of Gloucestershire for a brief entitled Breast Feedings Best Beginnings, Sophie-May Peters from the University of Leeds for the V&A Bridge brief, and Jaki Jo Hannan from the University College for the Creative Arts, Epsom, for work on a Paul Davis identity.

This year, 25 per cent of the student awards went to international students, including Stephanie Larson from the South African University of Pretoria, who took first prize for the Virgin Atlantic Airways design brief.
