i4 creates model train for Pete Waterman

Pop music mogul Pete Waterman has appointed i4 Product Design to create a scaled-down locomotive for his model train company.

Waterman’s model railway firm, Just Like the Real Thing, appointed the Edinburgh-based consultancy to design the Class 26 model locomotive in March.

JLTRT briefed i4 to create two main versions of the locomotive, including about seven minor variants of those two models.

‘The models are very bespoke, as the end user for this sort of scale model is knowledgeable and aware that no two of the real trains were exactly the same,’ says i4 technical director Ewan Maxwell.

i4, which has never created a scale locomotive model before, worked from photographs of restored Class 26 trains to create CAD drawings.

JLTRT will manufacture the models through its model-making sister company MM1 Models.

A kit of parts or a fully assembled model will be available before Christmas from the JLTRT website.

Waterman’s Ayrshire-based company has already engaged i4 to create another three scale locomotive models over the coming year.
