Cornwall likely to host Dott 10

The Design Council’s Designs of the Time is looking to the South West to host its next event in 2010, a year later than originally planned.

According to Dott project manager Nicola Conner the event, which is now at final-stage talks with Cornish partners, will take place a year later because ‘convergence funding’ stipulations require ‘money to be spent in that year’.

A workshop with the convergence fund managers – about 20 possible funding partners for the event – will be held on 7 April.

Conner confirms that the Design Council is in talks with the Cornish Council and Falmouth College of Art to discuss the economic impact of the event on the region.

‘We see this as one of the final hurdles to official announcement of Dott 10,’ says Conner.

Dott 07 organisers John Thackara and Robert O’Dowd will continue their roles for the ‘foreseeable future’, but are anticipated to become associate members, once the handover to Cornwall has been finalised.

Earlier this month, Dott 07 hosted its final explorers club initiative, while its North East public design commissions including Low Carb Lane and Urban Farming will continue to develop service concepts under the Dott brand, though not for commercial gain.
