Creative Shropshire, an event aimed at showcasing creative services and providing networking opportunities in the region, takes place today.

The exhibition will feature a selection of companies from the 50 members of Creative Shropshire that includes illustrators, Web and graphic designers, filmmakers, digital design consultancies, copywriters and photographers.

A series of seminars and a ‘creative surgery’ will run, offering advice and consultation for creative businesses, as well as providing networking opportunities with local companies.

According to Sophie Eades, one of the organisers of Creative Shropshire and founder of photography studio Lilac Sky, the objective is to raise the profile of the sector and to encourage businesses to consider Shropshire-based creative consultancies.

‘We’re basically promoting Shropshire as a centre of creative excellence. It’s a good way for local businesses to get involved with design and creative services,’ says Eades.

Creative Shropshire is the brainchild of Shrewsbury-based Phoot Creative founder Steve Ashdown, who felt there was a lack of networking opportunities and support services for like-minded creative individuals in the region.

The first event was held last year.

Groups taking part this year include Constantine Design, Phoot Creative, Scribble, Ascendancy Internet Marketing, MA Creative, Orangeleaf Systems, Remote New Media, Picture Works, Yarrington, Lilac Sky Photography, Livesey Print, Footprint Photography, Information Solutions.

The exhibition will be open from 2-8pm today at the Enginuity, Ironbridge, Shropshire.
