New York Design Week starts

New York Design Week, one of the US’s biggest design events, kicks off tomorrow, opening with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Jacob K Javits Convention Centre.

More than 600 exhibitors from across the US, South America, Asia and Europe will showcase their latest collections of seating, lighting, textiles, flooring, materials and home accessories at the ICFF, organised by consumer product trade show producers George Little Management.

GLM is hoping to attract an international audience of more than 23 000 interior designers, architects, retailers, designers, manufacturers and distributors.

A series of book-related events have been planned for the next two days, as part of the ICFF Bookstore programme, including daily book signings for names like Tord Boontje and Jean-Marie Massaud. As part of the ICFF Editors Awards, prizes will be given for 16 categories, including the best new designer and best body of work.

Over the coming week, the city will play host to a series of events, new product launches, public debates, design competitions, symposiums and parties.
