Ravensbourne College plans move to Greenwich

Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication has unveiled plans to relocate to a purpose-built environment designed by Foreign Office Architects in the £5bn Greenwich Peninsula development in south-east London.

Planning application for the building has been filed and construction is expected to be complete by 2009. The new college will be housed in Peninsula Square, which forms part of the development’s 325 000m2 commercial district, Peninsula Central.

The college is currently based in Chislehurst, Kent. Its director, Professor Robin Baker, says that the move is part of the institution’s ‘educational transformation’, which he hopes will ‘narrow the gap between an educational and a professional experience – accelerating the journey from student into practitioner’.

The interdisciplinary college offers courses spanning product design, interiors, graphics, digital, moving image, interaction and sound design, ranging from the level of further education to postgraduate study.
