Summer of Glug
Last night creative get-together Glug moved to its summer home for a digital barbecue and some alfresco ‘notworking’ at Cargo in London’s Shoreditch.
Glug, the brainchild of Ian Hambleton of Studio Output and Made Studio’s Nick Clement, is a more or less monthly event where designers and other creative people can meet each other, get a bit tipsy and listen to talks by leading innovators, this time from the digital sector.

Those who could bear to leave the outdoor heat and smell of barbecue were richly rewarded with talks from Mill Co (read about the collective’s first annual exhibition here), pattern masters Patternity, Marc Kremers and Maverick Media, who let us have a sneaky peak at their latest feat, a trailer for Electronic Arts’s new game Crysis 2.

There was a mini exhibition from Mill Co and a table of exciting-looking magazines to flick through, courtesy of innovative independent magazine distributor Stack. Photographer Paul Bence was also on hand to document the night and work on his Street Portrait series.
Luckily for the swarms of designers and creatives who came along, the barbecue wasn’t just a digital mirage but a mouth-watering reality. More drinking and dancing followed the talks, along with a speed dating-style networking exercise, which resulted in alcoholic rewards for Gluggers that found others with a ticket of the same number.
A great turnout for a fun and informative event. Roll on next month.
