Bird is on the books at the Jelly London agency, which was appointed by Blue Hive to find an illustrator who could bring to life a Cluedo theme.
Blue Hive had already named its meeting rooms after crime scenes from the board game and was looking to take the idea a bit further.
After an exhaustive six weeks Bird, armed with ink pens and an old projector, finished eight rooms which have been transformed into the likes of The Lounge, The Dining Room, The Billiards Room and The Study.
Bird set about building up a sense of place by dropping illustrative clues. ‘In the Dining Room there’s an invite on the mantle piece to Mr and Mrs Green and you can see his bow tie on the side and his jacket hanging up. There are subtle references to the fact that he might have done his wife in, like the book How to Get Away With Murder on a book shelf.’
In an additional narrative a cockatoo can be seen hopping between rooms, before eventually disappearing out of a window ‘to make friends with a London pigeon,’ says Bird.
The project grew from five to eight rooms and includes a separate brief where one space is dominated by popular internet memes from 2012, like Mo Farrah – star of …Running Away From Things and the London Olympics, who is illustrated ‘Running out of the Blue Hive building’ says Bird.
