Become a desk-based street artist with Stencil Republic
Ever fancied yourself as a bit of a street-art rebel, but don’t quite have the nerve? Handy with a spray can, but nowhere to use it?
The new Stencil Republic book, by London-based creative studio Ollystudio’s Oliver Walker and published by Laurence King, may be able to help.
The book features 20 stencils printed onto perforated card, created by international street artists such as Artiste Ouvrier, BS.AS.STNCL, Chris Stain, Dan Innes, Orticanoodles, Ozi, Run Don’t Walk and Stencil King, who has penned the book’s introduction.
Try your hand at recreating ranges from a delightful skull, to a pop-art style zebra, to an angry unicorn.
Rene Gagnon’s contribution is Bomber, which exists in ‘real life’ at Fall River in Massachusetts:
Orticanoodles, meanwhile, has handed his frightening rewoking of Andy Warhol as a skull for the public to use as they wish:
Street artist AIKO says, ‘This is something you cannot learn at school. It doesn’t matter whether it is commissioned or unauthorised, painting in the dirty alley, on postal stickers, canvases, store signs, outdoor murals, you have to feel it, jump in, don’t stop and…have fun.’
And so with those words ringing in our ear, in a two -fingered salute to ‘the man’, we’re gleefully ‘graffing’ all over the cover of our A4 diary. Gosh, we’re ever so street here.
