British Library in digital overhaul
The British Library is seeking consultancies to work on the next stage of its ambitious web development project.

The BL says it is seeking to create a [digital] experience that matches the Library’s impressive physical presence in London.’
Last year the BL appointed consultancies VML London and Organic Inc to work on a new global experience language and technical architecture respectively.
These projects have now been completed, and the BL is seeking consultancies to take them forward and work on web design.
The BL has issued a tender worth up to £1 million over two years, seeking consultancies to work on web strategy, usability testing and web design.
It says, ‘As it moves forward, the Library will only achieve a consistent web interface by working with a small number of well-briefed and highly skilled external partners.
‘The Library is therefore establishing a framework arrangement for information architecture, design and usability. This will create a small group of preferred digital agency partners the Library requires.’
The framework is split into three different lots, looking at ‘strategic aspects of web interface development’, usability testing and web design.
As part of this framework, the BL says it is seeking to appoint up to five consultancies to the web design lot.
