The Chartered Society of Designers is planning to host a conference in the new year to discuss the issue of universities offering design services.

The CSD is also inviting representatives from the academic world to help establish protocols for such activities being undertaken by universities and related industry partners.

The conference would address the concerns of the design industry regarding the issue, and speakers and participants from the academic world, design practices, Government and design organisations will be invited to take part.

Clive Richards, president of the CSD, says, ‘There is much confusion about how universities currently conduct their commercial enterprise activities and [there is] a need for authoritative models of good practice which would benefit not only professional designers and academe, but also the potential clients of both.’

The CSD is inviting comment, proposals, case studies and intelligence regarding the issue. These should be sent to info@csd.org.uk.
