Rockwell designs ‘wall of light’ for Paris hotel

An ‘oversized, undulating wall of light’ will weave through the public spaces and guest rooms in W Hotels’ Paris debut, according to interior design consultancy Rockwell Group Europe.

The 90-room W Paris Opéra will inhabit an 1870s, Neo-Classical building located across the street from the Opera.

According to a statement from Rockwell, interiors will blend the ‘energy’ of W Hotels’ home town New York with Paris’s reputation as a ‘city of light’.

The wall of light – which will be visible from the street – will be programmed to transform based on season, events and time of day. In addition, the foyer will feature an installation of projected images of the natural world.

The ground level and mezzanine floors will house the lounge areas, while the hotel will also feature a restaurant, ‘destination bar’ and fitness centre. The suites will offer original fireplaces, white marble bathrooms and dressing rooms.

According to Rockwell Group Europe managing director and creative director Diego Gronda, the interiors are inspired by ‘the elegance, history, richness and radiance of the city’, but will ‘layer in a contemporary cool and light-hearted approach’.
