Design Council set to name chairman

The Design Council’s new chairman is to be announced next week, Design Week can reveal.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, and the Department for Culture Media and Sport are understood to be organising a press statement about Sir George Cox’s successor for next Monday.

The incoming chairman will take over the implementation of the Cox Review of Creativity at the council, as well as oversee the Skills Advisory Board’s proposals for the creation of the proposed national skills academy.

The appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal, and the successful candidate is expected to commit at least 16 days a year to the post.

Sir George Cox steps down in December, after three years at the helm. He has yet to indicate what his next move will be.
