Designers head for Istanbul

Istanbul’s third design week opens today in the Old Galata area of the Turkish city.

The week-long event will feature key speakers including Spain’s Patricia Urquiola, fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, Dutch trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, Italian industrial designer Defne Koz, US designer Marco Susani, and the founder of Smart Design Tucker Viemeister from the US.

Key features include a sea surface exhibition area, with floating objects and design installations.

Disciplines including industrial product design, packaging, corporate identity, typography, graphics, new media, animation, fashion and environmental design will be represented.

The event runs until 10 September.
