Garrick Hamm will take the presidency of D&AD in September 2008.

The Williams Murray Hamm partner, who is D&AD’s education chairman, will be named this evening as D&AD deputy president for one year. He will succeed Simon Waterfall as president in 12 months’ time.

Hamm indicates that during his presidency he will encourage more women to work in design, but warned, ‘It won’t be aboutindulging my personal whims. I will just do what is best for D&AD as a brand. I will continue the work of Simon, Dick Powell and Tony Davidson.’

He adds, ‘D&AD needs to be dragged into 2007 in terms of the digital sector, and Simon is a master of that. I look forward to supporting him in his work.’ The names of five new members voted on to the committee will be announced tomorrow (Thursday).
