Hawaii Design’s periodic table-inspired Designersblock branding

Hawaii Design has created the branding for the Designersblock destination at this year’s London Design Festival, with designs inspired by the periodic table.

The consultancy has created the branding for Designersblock each year since 2001, including last year’s tessellating graphics.

This year’s branding is inspired by the periodic table of elements, drawing on this year’s Designersblock’s show The Fifth Element – a live exhibition of installations that examine how scientific research and technologies are informing design.

This year’s event, which starts tomorrow, sees the show expanded to comprise the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and ballroom, as well as the undercroft area where it has been housed in previous years.

Paul McAnelly, Hawaii Design managing director, says, ‘Each show has its own theme and identity, and now that there’s three or four different areas we decided on the idea of the periodic table.

‘The Fifth Element show inspired the designs – it celebrates the weird processed and crazy ways you can manufacture and produce things’.

Bright yellows, pinks and purples were chosen to aid navigation around the spaces.

‘I’ve always been a fan of bright, fluorescent and neon colours for Designersblock’, says McAnelly.

‘When you stand at the undercroft and see the pink, yellow and purple it’s going to be really banging’.
