L&CO brands Marvellous Meat

L&CO has created the identity for start-up meat supplier Marvellous Meat, aiming to create a branding focused on ‘provenance’.

Marvellous Meat has been set up by farmer Paul Ross and supplies meat from Sussex cattle straight to the customer.

L&CO was brought on board to create a new identity for the venture, and worked for a reduced fee in exchange for equity in the company.

Paul Barlow, founder and creative director of L&CO, says, ‘When your consultancy is also a shareholder they become a real business partner, that completely changes the relationship.’

Tom Feilla, designer on the project, says ‘It’s all about the provenance. We needed to create a British-sounding brand and “marvellous” is a very British word.’

‘For the applications we took inspiration from old-fashioned butchers’ graphics.’

Feilla says the project is focused on the Marvellous Meats ecommerce site and the consultancy has also created print designs and packaging for when the meat is delivered to customers.

For the imagery, L&CO worked with Hastings-based photographer Phil Cook.

Marvellous Meat launches this month.
