Cornershop by-the-Sea where everything is made of felt
During the summer, a wonderful addition to the often tiresome list of east London pop-up shops emerged: a cornershop stocked entirely with products made of felt.
The space in Bethnal Green was the brilliant brainchild of artist Lucy Sparrow, who created more than 4000 hand made felt versions of grocery items including fish fingers, cans of lager, Spam, sanitary towels, magazine and cigarettes -all created in the space of just seven months.
We were devastated to miss out on seeing it during its tenure in London, but thankfully, we’ve got another chance to wonder at the little felt packets of Golden Wonder as the cornershop takes up residence in Brighton’s No Walls gallery.
The show has been tailored into a “seaside version” for its Brighton residency.
As with the London version, all the pieces are for sale, but will remain in the “shop” for the duration of the exhibition.
Cornershop by-the-sea is in place from 4 October – 25 October at No Walls gallery, 114 church street, Brighton BN1 1UD
‘devEstated’?
Good grief.
