Virtual monsters

A mix of infinite mirrors, audio-visual environments, dancers in wind tunnels and giant evolving monsters sounds like some sort of phantasmagoria, but is set to tantalise digital design lovers and the like, this April at La Gaîté Lyrique – a new venue dedicated to digital arts in Paris.

The exhibition, Super-Computer Romantics, sees UK digital artist Matt Pyke take possession of the entire building, so visitors can explore and discover his and his studio, Universal Everything, numerous digital creations and aims to reinforce Pyke’s status as a poster child for the digital revolution.

Remember the loveable furry monster idents from MTV’s rebrand last year? Mister Furry, created by Universal Everything as part of the MTV refresh, will set the mood for the gallery experience. The super cute 3m high walking monster can be found in the Chambre Sonore, where visitors can watch the digital eye candy endlessly transform itself.

Other works to encounter include; a never-ending procession of bodies struggling against a hurricane of sound, the coffee tunnel installation with evolving drawings that endlessly changes the rooms emotional state and much more.

Watch out on the DW blog for sneak peak images and previews.

Matt Pyke & Friends: Super-Computer-Romantics is showing from 21 April – 27 May at the La Gaîté Lyrique, Paris, France.
