Style Wars Top Trumps
Is life a constant style challenge? Is it important that you’re reppin’ the latest menswear trend? Well, if you can’t afford the designer labels, illustrator David Sparshott has made it possible to still come up trumps in the style stakes. Literally.
The new Style Wars trump card game is a sartorially minded set of menswear top trumps cards. Featuring key looks from the past century, some will score you higher than others in categories such as Boardroom Kudos, Mainstream Imitations and Timeless Appeal.
Some key looks include Bass Weejuns loafers, iconic Ray Ban Wayfarers, a Paul Smith suit and even the 90s classic – a simple pair of Calvin Klein briefs, which will score you 100 in Seduction Factor (of course).
David Sparshott worked on the project for three months. He says, ‘Loads and loads of research went into the project in order to nail down every look.
‘I think my favourite card is the Vivienne Westwood tartan suit look from the early 90s, it was really nice and bright to draw.’
Sparshott collaborated with a stylist, and was glad of the extra help. He says, ‘Look and style wise I would have been lost at sea without a stylist, but it was a great project to work on – really smooth running.’
This summer Sparshott’s playful graphite and coloured pencil illustrations will once again grace the trump cards world, when Magma with Laurence King publishers release a cycling set based on the illustrator’s previous bicycle illustration prints.
Style Wars: A Trump Card Game by David Sparshott is published by Magma for Laurence King priced at £8.95
