One Beam of Light
While crowd-sourcing certainly has its insalubrious side, a new exhibition of photography gathered by such measures shows that some good can come of it.
The One Beam of Light show opening at the ICA next week will display a series of crowd-sourced photographs, all focusing on a single source of light.
According to the ICA, the project, which was born from a collaboration between lighting designers Light Collective and architectural lighting brand Concord, ‘aims to inspire and educate on the creative processes that are often employed with lighting design’.
In October last year a search was launched for people to create images from light, with Concord donating a variety of its latest LED Beacon Projectors to aid in the creation of their images.
The ICA says, ‘A traditionally unconventional medium, light artistry is a very popular outlet for showcasing the creativity involved in lighting design. The project has taken its inspiration from around the world.’
Lighting design practices, including BDSP, DPA Lighting Consultants, AECOM and Klaasen Lighting Design will be showing their work, and pieces were submitted from countries as far afield as Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Singapore and Taiwan, as well as across Europe.
One Beam of Light runs from 16 – 20 April at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, (ICA), The Mall, London SW1Y. For more information on the One Beam of Light initiative see www.onebeamoflight.com.
