Got a bright idea for a revolutionary bagless vacuum cleaner, hand-dryer or bladeless fan? Well tough, because James Dyson’s already beaten you to it. But if you think you’ve found the solution to a problem no-one else realises exists, you could chance your arm at impressing the bag- and blade-phobic billionaire and enter the 2010 James Dyson Award.
Prizes include £10 000 for the international winner and the opportunity to visit the Dyson factory in the UK or Malaysia. Applications close on 1 July, so make your way to http://www.jamesdysonaward.org/Prize.aspx to enter. Royal College of Arts graduates Yusuf Mohammed and Paul Thomas picked up the top prize last year, for their Automist kitchen fire extinguisher, which can be seen in all its spraying glory here.
