SCP announces architect for west London store conversion

Modern and contemporary furniture retailer SCP has announced the details of its forthcoming London branch in Westbourne Grove, scheduled for mid-June.

SCP is working with architect Munkenbeck and Marshall to convert the 250m2 ground floor of a 1960s brick-built office building into a large shop.

Angela Marquito is the project architect for Munkenbeck and Marshall in charge of the store’s design. She claims the emphasis should be on the furniture, and not on the design of the interior. ‘The furniture is vitally important, so we have to make sure the shop doesn’t overwhelm what’s on display,’ she says.

‘Wide wooden floorboards, a huge glass façade and invisible joinery will create the illusion that the boards continue beyond the glass,’ says Marquito. ‘We are trying to keep everything as simple as possible.’

The enormous wrap-around windows will also provide an eye-catching showcase for new products by Jean Marie Massaud and Pearson Lloyd, according to a spokeswoman at SCP.
