Kysen’s clean image for the HEA

Kysen Design has created a series of characters for the Health Education Authority to help teach primary school children about food hygiene.

Safe-T and the H Squad forms the theme for the health education pack, being distributed to every UK primary school as part of the National Curriculum’s Key Stage II. The pack includes a teacher’s guide, activity sheets, classroom posters and a board game targeting numeracy skills.

Kysen’s characters will also appear in a special cartoon strip featured in comics The Dandy and The Beano later this month, reinforcing key messages.

Kysen managing director Jon Grover, who has designed work for several educational projects in the past, says: “As well as presenting the material to children in a way that is fun and accessible, a central part of the HEA brief was to design a pack that would help busy teachers, who are already under the pressure of a strenuous National Curriculum.

“The pack will provide teachers with the key messages and much of the lesson planning on a plate, by giving them ready-made tools to take into the classroom,” he adds.
