The qualified should advise passionate design students

I am a mother of a graphics student studying at Brighton University and also head of a design consultancy.

I read with interest the letters that were published in Design Week by Poole & Rutter Creative Design director Melvin Rutter (Letters, DW 9 May) and Umbrella Design director Mark Fanthorp (Letters, DW 30 May).

I wonder what advice would they (or anyone experienced) give to a student that is passionate about design?
