The Imperial War Museum expects to appoint designers early next year for its 7m Holocaust gallery due to open in 1997.

‘We want this gallery to be unique, with a huge amount of impact. We need top expertise,’ says museum exhibitions officer Penny Ritchie Calder, adding that the museum will ‘cast the net wide, it may not be just one designer’.

She adds: ‘We’re interested in theatrical designers, and we’re looking abroad as well as in the UK.’

Architectural practice Arup Associates is working on the feasibility study, but has not yet created any detailed designs.
