We’ll also be inducting two designers into our Hall of Fame to celebrate their lifetime achievements, and introducing a special 30th anniversary award celebrating the best project from Design Week’s history. You can vote for your favourite project here.
You can join us on 13 June at our Awards dinner, which will be held at the Tower of London. Ticket details here.
Some beautiful pieces of design through this shortlist, but a few pieces stick out.
I will assume the iPhone 7 plus and Mac Book are here only because designers are irrationally in love with apple products – the iPhone 7 plus is basically an iPhone 6 plus body with more of a raised camera and definitely not more aesthetically appealing than its predecessor. Neither product is innovative or original anymore so I cannot undersand why either would be on this list. The watches I can understand for the bands maybe…. maybe.
The other is the Elle cover – possibly it is here for the same reason a film will get an Oscar nomination. The only way for this consistently horrible and often illegible magazine cover (as in the example above) to be shortlisted would be if someone knows one of the ‘independent judges’ or has been lobbying for a shortlist listing.
