Big response to pier pitch

Some 22 logo designs for Brighton’s Palace Pier have been submitted to the venue’s operator, despite an “absurd” free pitch for the project (DW 9 February).

The pier’s general manager Peter Clements says he was pleased with the response and has shortlisted seven of the entries to the advertised free pitch.

Clements declines to name the shortlist, but says that five of the seven proposals are from design consultancies. Four of these are Brighton-based and the fifth is from Chichester.

Clements admits that the responses to the pitch have been of varying quality, but comments that the “shortlist has some good work on it”. Clements and the pier’s managing director will have selected the final logo by tomorrow (Friday).
