DCMS reviews arts spending

The Government’s review of spending on the arts will see only modest increases in spending on museums, libraries and galleries over the next three years.

The Department for Culture Media and Sport says it will increase funding by 4.4 per cent, though regional galleries and museums will see higher percentage increases. Arts bodies the Arts Council, the Royal Parks and English Heritage will see decreases in their ‘real’ budgets, causing an outcry by prominent figures, including Arts Council chairman Sir Christopher Frayling.
