Paul Harpin has joined Haymarket Magazines as director of design.

Harpin, who took up his new post last week, will work with editorial director Mel Nichols across the company’s existing consumer titles and new launches.

Nichols says: “Paul has launched 33 magazines and redesigned 28 more in the past 12 years. His breadth of experience is immense.” Harpin had previously been working with the Haymarket group as a consultant.

He has spent the past year redesigning eight women’s magazines in Singapore (DW 10 February 1995). Prior to that he was creative director of Redwood Publishing and group art director at Centaur Communications, publisher of Design Week.

Harpin says he will be “hands on” but that Haymarket will continue its policy of using external designers as well as “the very good people already here”.
