Impressive lecture by great inventor at CSD

I was at one of the most stimulating talks I have ever been to last week at The Chartered Society of Designers. It was by James Dyson.

This man has achieved so much, and his Cyclone Suction Cleaner range is genuinely inventive, packed full of clever design and engineering details. The range looks stunning. He has created a factory to produce them and, not least, has gained the major share of the suction cleaner market from giants such as Electrolux and Hoover.

Manufacturers take note, I predict that more designers, frustrated by ultra-conservative manufacturing company attitudes, will do as Dyson has done. They will become instrumental in the establishment of new companies producing innovative products to challenge the norm and take significant market shares.

In my view, Dyson has done more for British product design than any other industrial designer. Just look in any high street store.
