Selfridges unveils new escalator

The centrepiece to the masterplan refurbishment of Selfridges’ London store is to be unveiled this week. John Herbert Partnership which has worked on the 6m project for the past three years, designed the new central escalator atrium.

Other consultancies which have contributed to the refurbishment include John Lees Associates, CD Partnership, and Newell and Sorrell, which was responsible for the store’s new identity (DW 5 September).

The escalator is intended to provide a dynamic central focal point for shoppers.
