A rehearsal census, held to prepare for the next full national population census of in 2001, is to be staged from this week. The project will use a corporate identity created by Minale Tattersfield & Partners.

The trial run will be employed to gauge the public response to the appeal for census information. It will also help the organisers to fine-tune the facilities for gathering and processing it.

The Minale Tattersfield identity aims to put its emphasis on fun rather than officialdom, according to a consultancy spokeswoman.

Featuring a house which also appears to be an envelope, the concept was designed to be easily adapted should it be adopted for the full census.

The identity features the strapline “Don’t fail us. Mail us”, in a bid to achieve the maximum number of responses.

Minale Tattersfield was awarded the design contract after working on previous campaigns, and was not required to pitch for the job, says the spokeswoman.
