Ben Kelly creates Borough style

Ben Kelly Design is creating the interiors for Borough, an independent nine-bedroom hotel, bar and restaurant in Edinburgh, with graphic design work by Navyblue.

The hotel, owned by Callison Eaton, is a conversion of an industrial warehouse-style building in the centre of the city and was formerly a snooker hall. Ben Kelly was appointed without a pitch. Navyblue was approached to create the identity, signage and all stationery.

Ben Kelly is retaining several industrial design features, including columns, exposed beams, steel window frames and brickwork. Ben Kelly Design associate Patrik McKinney says it wanted to create an elegant environment, blending original building fabric with contemporary touches.

The public bar and restaurant will feature eight-seat circular enclosed booths, a pool table and a large central timber staircase. The bedrooms incorporate original large factory-style windows and high ceilings to maximise the floor space, and all feature minimalist white colourways.

Borough is due to open in April.
