Chancellor plans creativity conference

Chancellor Gordon Brown has revealed plans for a conference on creativity for British industry, to be hosted by the Treasury.

‘Creativity will be the theme of the new enterprise conference that the Treasury will be holding in the new year,’ Brown told a packed hall at the National Gallery in his opening address of the London Design Festival on Monday evening.

Arguing that it is ‘the power of creativity and design adding value that will make the difference between economic success and economic failure’, the Chancellor raised industry hopes that the Treasury will respond positively to the Cox Review at both the strategic and fiscal level.

Brown also thanked the design industry for its ‘double digit rates of growth…which give me some hope of achieving for the British economy the more modest level of growth I aspire to’.
