Future of industry not as depressing as first supposed

I wonder if the article ‘Doing the deal’ by Clare Dowdy (DW 9 November) may have depressed your readers unnecessarily. There hasn’t been much merger and acquisitions activity in the sector recently, but I don’t think that will remain the case.

Buyers will always seek out quality businesses with good growth prospects and profit margins. Provided sellers have profits over £500 000, a management team and good client list, they should find buyers here or abroad.

If the past 27 years has taught me anything, it is that everything is cyclical. Today’s money may go to Asia or into digital, but smart owners will look forward and create the hot prospects of tomorrow.
