Chickenland expands in UK via Harrison Design

NANDOS CHICKENLAND, a South African restaurant chain with a Portuguese theme, has commissioned Harrison Design to create seven more UK outlets. The chain plans to expand outside London for the first time.

Sites in Birmingham’s Broad Street and Star City are under consideration, along with Slough and Reading in Berkshire, in a project which starts next month in Kilburn, north London.

Harrison Design aims to enhance the Portuguese theme and position Nandos as an upmarket brand competing with rivals such as Pizza Express and Pret Manger.

The chain is expected to grow further to about 50 outlets.

“Nandos is one of South Africa’s biggest food brands,” says Harrison Design managing director Philip Harrison. “Most of the sites are around 140m2 and we will be developing each to the highest standard,” he adds.

Harrison Design has recently been active in a number of projects, including the Ha!Ha! bar at Windsor Royal station, a nightclub for First Leisure in Watford and a beach-themed bar for pub group Greenalls.
