Newson unveils new bike design

International product design star Mike Newson has developed a new bicycle for everyday commuting, with the focus on the aesthetic nature of the machine rather than the technical.

The initial concept for the MN01 Extravaganza came from Jens Martin Skibsted and Elias Grove Nielsen, co-founders of Danish bicycle company Biomega.

The company subsequently commissioned Newson to complete the development of the innovative vehicle which will be launched next month with a retail price of £3450.

The design brief combined inventiveness, practicality, functionality and a futuristic aesthetic, with a frame using a technique from the aerospace and aviation industry called super plastic forming.

As a result, the frame of the vehicle is 1.6mm thick and weighs only 12kg.
