Spencer Landor is working with a consultant to formalise its operations on the back of a sustained increase in workload.

Design director John Spencer says the redundancy of junior designer Scott Rozier and non-renewal of project manager Juliet Barclay’s contract this month are unrelated to the process. “This will be an ongoing process of development, not a restructure. The position of junior designer will be replaced by a senior designer and the project manager position will remain,” he says.

The senior designer post will be filled by freelances on a week-by-week basis. These will work alongside the full-time team of ten staff, including four designers. The project manager post was subject to a six-month contract.

“We have a human resources expert looking at everybody’s roles,” adds Spencer. “We have been a bit cavalier about things in the past and as we grow we have to be more structured, with people understanding their roles better,” he continues.

Spencer Landor has just won the job to design a new marque for retail chain Past Times and is about to implement its identity for Royal Exchange Theatre.
