QE2 facelift includes two new restaurants

Implementation of Met Studio’s latest work for Cunard is underway this week on the cruise line’s flagship, the QE2, in a Southampton dry dock.

According to a spokeswoman for Cunard, the opportunity has been taken to redevelop certain public areas of the ship while it is docked for mandatory servicing. “It will be a continuation of the design put in two years ago by Met Studio,” she says. The areas will include two restaurants, the Mauretania and Princess Grill.

The ship’s capacity will be reduced by 250 to 1500 to enable the Mauretania Restaurant to be expanded. Elsewhere, new flooring and carpets are to be introduced, along with an interactive television system for all cabins.

The refurbishment work equals about a quarter of that done during the ship’s troubled facelift in 1994.

McNeece, which was involved with Met Studio in the 1994 refurbishment, is not involved in the project this time.
