Luxury plans in store for Hirst’s Pharmacy

LONDON restaurant Pharmacy is opening a retail outlet to sell luxury foodstuffs. The store is adjacent to the restaurant in London’s Notting Hill Gate.

The shop will open in mid-September and is being designed largely by artist Damien Hirst, one of the original Pharmacy shareholders. Hirst was responsible for the design concept of the restaurant and ground floor bar, featuring medicine cabinets and bespoke wallpaper.

Pharmacy assistant general manager Nadir Suleman suggests it is a one-off project: “We will be selling foods like luxury pastas, but the idea is not to do our own brand [packaging] with a P on.” He says that Hirst is doing most of the interior design.

Whether other designers will become involved is not known.
