The latest creation from German lighting designer Ingo Maurer – Horny Philippe – was launched during the International Furniture Fair at Cologne, as a homage to Philippe Starck. The idea for the new fitting came from the horn shape found in many of Starck’s designs, and the final product reflects Maurer’s view of Starck’s work. ‘A formal marriage of opposites, reconciling male and female, Yin and Yang, in a way that perfectly fits the androgynous spirit of the 1990s,’ says Maurer. Manu factured in cast aluminium, it is available in a limited edition of 50. An industrial plastic version is planned for the spring.

International retail packaging manufacturer Beripak is using new graphics to appeal more to designers. The images, by Jackson Bird Design in Staffordshire, will hang in the company’s new UK headquarters in Kingston upon Hull. ‘The company has not talked to designers very much,’ says consultancy director Ian Jackson. The designs feature elements of pack closures produced by Beripak. The interiors of the new offices are by Onions & Onions in Lichfield.
