NMK launches Web law guide

Digital media support body New Media Knowledge has produced a 20-page guide addressing the major legal issues relating to the Internet, digital media and e-commerce.

With an increasing number of legal cases highlighting the difficulties companies face in the fast-growing sector, E-Law Essentials covers various topics including domain name disputes, trading on-line, intellectual property, data protection, UK and EU legislation, defamation and contract drafting.

The publication was written by John Warchus, a lawyer specialising in technology law who is the IT and e-commerce partner at law firm Shadbolt & Co.

It has also received support from the Government, with a foreword by minister for small business and e-commerce Patricia Hewitt. She says: “This guide will clearly explain many of the most important legal issues surrounding e-commerce and the Internet, and help entrepreneurs take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.”

NMK director Stephen Whaley adds: “I hope this guide will give businesses the knowledge and grounding needed to proceed confidently in the digital economy.”
