Designers should resist obligatory Dome-bashing
I thought Neal Potter’s comments on the Dome (DW 21 January) were personal and detailed. What I hope the design community can do is pull back from such detailed criticism and personal taste and see the Dome as a pageant-free, thought-provoking expression
I thought Neal Potter’s comments on the Dome (DW 21 January) were personal and detailed.
What I hope the design community can do is pull back from such detailed criticism and personal taste and see the Dome as a pageant-free, thought-provoking expression of humanity, which if it were in Barcelona or Paris or New York we would all be celebrating without reservation.
In light of what I fear is design bashing humbug from the national press, I’d prefer a design champion who speaks up for the Dome.
As you pointed out, some folk may prefer to ride in the London Eye than visit the Dome, but you shouldn’t compare the essentially private fairground experience of the London Eye to the cultural and social importance of the Dome.
