Saatchi & Saatchi Design is in the running to create the identity for the world’s second biggest law firm, formed through the merger of five of Europe’s leading commercial practices.

The tie-up, to be called Link laters & Alliance, is being spearheaded by Linklaters in London, for which S&S Design created a corporate identity.

Consultancy creative director David Slater says of the identity: “We are going to be looking at it,” but will give no more details. Nor could he confirm whether the name Linklaters & Alliance will be retained.

Linklaters acting head of marketing Mark King says the issue of branding is very important.

“We have a retainer with S&S Design. There is no formal announcement either way [on the consultancy’s appointment], and no tendering is planned at the moment. S&S Design does a good job for us,” he says.

Linklaters & Alliance, which will also comprise practices based in Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden, will be operational from 1 November.
