Inspired

It’s 27 years since Wales won rugby’s Grand Slam. As a small child I was taken to the famous Cardiff Arms Park – the home of Welsh rugby – which left me with a vivid image of what dedication and success means. As a Welshman living most of my life outside Wales, rugby is my only real link with the land of my father.

Now, in 2005, with Wales having won this coveted trophy again I was inspired by Penderyn Welsh whisky launching a special edition Grand Slam version of their single malt. The whisky is the first to be made in Wales for more than 100 years and the spirit represents the revival of a Celtic heritage.

Penderyn has a modern contemporary look and feel that makes it stand apart from traditional Scotch whiskies, so it was quite appropriate that it celebrates a new era for Wales.

The pack has the signatures of each team player, facts and figures about the complete event and a blow-by-blow account of every move on the pitch that won the Welsh team the title. The product clearly appeals to a select, defined audience, but the ability of Penderyn, a small company, to react to a popular event was refreshing.

The speed and accuracy of launching this special edition is only matched by the Welsh performance on the pitch and as the celebrations go on Penderyn is the spirit of the game.
